Monument Fire
Arizona, June 2011
Lord, we need You... calm the wild winds, send gentle rains...
mend broken hearts and take away fear...
July 9, 2011 - Rain over part of the Huachuca Mountains
On July 10, 2011, we took a drive to Miller and Ash Canyons - and our hearts ached at the sight. We
didn't photograph the remains of homes that were lost; only the landscape instead.
Three hours after we left the area, the appearance of Miller Canyon changed again - when flash flooding and mud slides took place. Boulders were moved... a large propane tank was sent on a journey down the mountainside, spewing liquid propane on the way - eventually breaching a home...

Our Lady of the Sierras - although the chapel burnt, ... and may God bless and protect you all...
the cross and Madonna remained...

Amid devastation, a burnt yucca sends forth blossoms to show it still lives...

A local doctor - who lost his home in the fire - knew of our art and invited us
to collect wood from his property
On July 31, 2011, we returned to Ash Canyon...

On July 31, 2011, we returned to Ash Canyon...
and brought a small bundle of burnt down-and-dead
manzanita wood home with us...
With Monument Fire now being a part of the wood's history, the remaining scorch marks
and burns tell their own story... perhaps it's a reminder that everything external can
quickly perish; it's only what's inside that's truly important...
Praise God!
Christian prayer chaplet / necklace made from the manzanita
a "reminder" necklace
"...perhaps it's a reminder that everything external can
quickly perish; it's only what's inside that's truly important..."
It seems that this necklace should be worn with the burnt
side showing; the chalice and host closest to the heart.
